WIth the release of Windows Mobile 6.0, there is a set of tools come with the WM 6.0 SDK that assist developer. in Windows Mobile application development. The tools include:
- Cellular Emulator
- FakeGPS
- FakeServer
_ Hopper
- Cab Sign Tool and
After you installed Windows Mobile SDK Standard or Professional edition, you can find the tools here:
[Install Path]\Program Files\Windows Mobile 6 SDK\Tools
I am going to walkthrough with you on how to use some of the tools in WM 6.0 SDK.
Cellular Emulator
Cellular Emulator is a tool that emulate a real radio nterface layer. But connecting your device emulator to this cellular emulator, you can now make or recevie calls from device emulator, or send/receive SMSs from your device emulator, cool?!
1. First, bring up your cellular emulator

2. Click at each tab to see what are the functionalities it provices.
Call Manager: Allows you to make and receive call
SMS: Send/receive SMS
Network: Can switch to 2G or 3G network.
3. Take note at the bottom left corner on the COM number. [ex. COM3 or COM4]

4. Bring up your device emulator manager.
5. Right-click on the emulator that you want to connect to, and select Connect.

6. At your device emulator, go to File > Configuration.

7. At the configure dialog box, select Peripherals tab.
8. Enter [COM number at your cellular emulator], for example, COM4. Then, click OK.

9. After that, you need to do a soft reset. At the device emulator, go to File > Reset > Soft.
10. Click OK to confirm on the soft reset.

11. After the device emulator rebooted, you can see the network symbol on the home screen.
Now you can try to make a call or send an SMS from your device emulator or from the cellular emulator.

Next post, I will show you how to use Hopper to stress test your windows mobile application. Stay tune!

After the .NET Mamak event, I have to conduct a Start.NET course - Windows Mobile Programming.
It is a one-day workshop and most of the students who attending this workshop also attended the .NET Mamak event one day before this workshop. Of course, there is bad and good. Good thing is that these students already exposed to Windows Mobile programming in my session and they have better and clear pictures on it; Bot so good thing is, the demo I showed yesterday in the .NET Mamak event, I can’t show them anymore…else they will get bored. So, I have to think of other things to show them, so that at least they can learn different or new thing from this workshop.
Some snapshots during the workshop.

The students are working on their hands-on-lab.

Whole day workshop, it will kind of easy fall asleep, especially after lunch time. So, I have prepared some goodies to cheer them up :D.

The cheese cake looks yummy??!! Yeah…It is very delicious. Thanks to one of my students - Sam, bought us this cake.

Let’s have a group picture, say cheeseeee….

Sorry Sam, you are not in the picture, perhaps can do a photo edit to add your face.
This workshop is really good, people from Penang are really friendly and easy to get along with. I really enjoyed so much during the workshop.
I will upload the links to download the presentation slides on some demo steps soon.

The event started of by Patrick on “What’s new in Visual Studio 2008″

Then, followed by my session on “Code Windows Mobile”, then the last session is “Web 2.0″ by Rohan.
You can download the slide I used in my session from here.
