“Upgrade to .NET” Campaign
This morning, we had a “Upgrade to .NET” campaign. The purpose of this seminar is to educate the VB or older version .NET developers to move to the latest .NET platform.
In this event, the attendees explored the new and improved Windows Services that ease some workload from developers in terms of developing, debugging and installation. Besides that, they also learned how to build rich looking windows applications with less effort than Visual Basic 6.0 and create dynamic web sites using ASP.NET.
Here are the topics for this event:
- .NET platform and its benefits for VB6 developers, by Patrick
- Migrate from VB6 to VB.NET? Where to start series, by Ian
- Moving from ASP to ASP.NET, Poh Sze
- Tips and Tricks in VB 9.0, by Patrick
The event is a bit over ran, until 2pm. However, I believe the attendees should be quite enjoyed seeing all the “magic”, cool features, tips and tricks that presented during the session.

"Bridging Age Gap & IT" Senior Citizens
Last Saturday [26th July], MIND organized an event “Bridging Age Gap & IT” for the senior citizens.
[got this picture from Yew Ban’s blog :P)
The event is held at Microsoft’s office. Early in the morning, around 30 people, age ranging from 40 to 70 years old senior IT class students already at Microsoft’s office waiting for the session to start.
The event covered 4 sessions:
1. Microsoft History, by Moy
2. Windows Mobile. What can you do other than phone calling? by Poh Sze
3. Introduction to Windows Vista, by Wen Ching
4. Introduction to Office 2007, by Yew Ban
It was really a great event, kudos to MIND for organizing this wonderful event. Of course, thanks for inviting me to present in this session.
I really enjoyed this event, firstly, it is because this is my first time to present to the senior citizens; secondly, I have to present in mandarin. Some of the words and terms, I really find hard to description in mandarin, thanks Yew Ban and the students in helping me to do translation.
If you were in the session, you will be amazed by the students’ passionate and eagerness in learning technologies without any language barrier.
Read more in Chinese version by Yew Ban.

[Start.NET] Windows Mobile Programming @ Penang
After the .NET Mamak event, I have to conduct a Start.NET course - Windows Mobile Programming.
It is a one-day workshop and most of the students who attending this workshop also attended the .NET Mamak event one day before this workshop. Of course, there is bad and good. Good thing is that these students already exposed to Windows Mobile programming in my session and they have better and clear pictures on it; Bot so good thing is, the demo I showed yesterday in the .NET Mamak event, I can’t show them anymore…else they will get bored. So, I have to think of other things to show them, so that at least they can learn different or new thing from this workshop.
Some snapshots during the workshop.

The students are working on their hands-on-lab.

I will upload the links to download the presentation slides on some demo steps soon.
